Officers Accuse Department of Racial Bias

Two senior officers from the NYPD accused the department of promoting several employees on the basis of race, while making under-the-table deals to facilitate career advancement for some while hindering growth for others. Officer Brian Larkin from the Patrol Borough Manhattan North Community Affairs Section alleged that department brass blocked his promotion despite exceptional performance.

Manhattan Man Arrested for Stabbing Off Duty Cop in Long Island

Royal Hooks, a 27-year-old man from Manhattan was arrested in connection with the stabbing of an off duty cop in Long Island. Hooks was allegedly caught attempting to steal perfume from a car in Linderhurst when he was confronted by two off duty NYPD officers, one of whom he stabbed in the leg after a physical struggle ensued. The officers were able successfully to detain Hooks until the local cops arrived.

LiPetri Named Interim Chief of Department

Following John Chell’s retirement, Michael LiPetri was elevated to the Chief of Department role by Commissioner Jessica Tisch. LiPetri previously served as the Chief of Crime Control Strategies and has worked at various precincts in Brooklyn throughout his 31 year career with the NYPD.

Hochul Noncommittal on Removing PC From Disciplinary Process

Governor Kathy Hochul was noncommittal when asked about intervening in mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani’s plan to remove the NYPD Police Commissioner’s power of authority in making disciplinary decisions. Hochul only went as far as saying she’d “talk about it” with him. Under Mamdani’s proposal, the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) would have the final say in determining office discipline.

Chell Files For Retirement

As first reported by The Finest Unfiltered’s Sal Greco in late August, NYPD Chief of Department John Chell filed for retirement with hopes of securing a ¾ disability pension in relation to an ankle injury he sustained on the job. Having spent just nine full months in the role since replacing Jeffrey Maddrey, Chell’s final decision was expedited by Mayor Eric Adams’s withdrawal from the race.

Retired 38-Year Veteran Cop, Herbert, Dies

Joseph Herbert, who served 38 years in the NYPD rising to the rank of Deputy Chief before retiring in 2017, passed away last Tuesday. Herbert gained national attention for playing a major role in apprehending the notorious zodiac killer, Heriberto Seda in 1996. He was 68 years old at the time of his passing.
