Retired Lieutenant Accuses NYPD Doctor of Sexual Abuse
September 20th, 2025

Former NYPD Lieutenant Wilding Aguasanta filed a lawsuit against the department with lawyer John Scola accusing then Deputy Chief Surgeon Theobald Reich of sexual abuse. The lawsuit alleges Reich made sexually suggestive comments and pursued romantic advances towards Aguasanta during medical visits. The NY Post reported Aguasanta didn’t report the behavior for fear of retaliation, which included the possibility of losing his job and pension.

Commissioner Tisch Proceeds With Charges Against Cops Involved in Fatal Shooting

September 19th, 2025

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch directed the department to inform two officers of charges brought by the Civilian Complaint Review Board. Police officers Salvatore Alongi and Matthew Cianfrocco will face a department trial in the death of 19-year-old Win Rozario. The interaction with Rozario was captured on body camera footage. Win Rozario charged at the officers with a pair of scissors inside his home after the cops responded to a 9-11 call.

Queens student arrested after threatening to “Shoot up” a NYC High School

September 18th, 2025
A 16-year-old student was arrested for allegedly posting on social media that he would “shoot up” Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in Bayside, Queens. The FBI noticed the post on Instagram that morning and informed the NYPD. NYC Mayor Eric Adams praised the response as an example of the public doing what the “see something, say something” campaign is intended to produce.

NYPD Sees Spike In In-Custody Deaths
September 17th, 2025
The NYPD has seen more people die in police custody between 2023 and 2024 combined – 43 – than any other two year period over the last decade. Though the number of people who died in police custody is down 40% from a year ago, three of the nine deaths have occurred in courthouse holding cells, leading to calls for additional reform and regulations.

New Bill Passed to Help 9/11 Victims
September 17th, 2025
A new bill sponsored by State Senator Jessica Scarella-Spanton and passed by Governor Kathy Hochul includes a number of provisions designed to help families of those impacted by the events of September 11th. Amongst them are the opportunity to revisit lost or destroyed claims as well as lost or destroyed public records.

Threats against mayoral candidate

A man from Texas has been accused of making serious threats directed at Zohran Mamdani, a NYC mayoral candidate. The Queens District Attorney’s office is involved.

Major crime drops citywide in annual report
September 17th, 2025
New York City saw declines in most major felony categories in the latest annual management report: murders are down ~6%, robberies down ~17%, assault down ~9%, burglaries down ~5%, and both grand larceny and auto theft fell ~10%. The number of shooting incidents also dropped 14%.

NYPD Officer Arrested for Stolen License Plate
September 16th, 2025
Police Officer David Carrasco was arrested for petty larceny and possession of stolen property after being caught with a license plate that was reported as missing. Carrasco was arrested at the 67th precinct, where he works, and was released from custody after being given a desk appearance ticket, according to the cops.

Daylight shooting, innocent bystander among victims
September 16th, 2025
A 63-year-old woman (an innocent bystander) and a 21-year-old man were shot in broad daylight on a busy Manhattan street (Lower East Side) at East Broadway & Clinton. The woman was shot in the foot, the man in the leg. Both were transported to Bellevue Hospital and are stable. Two male suspects fled on a bicycle. Investigation ongoing.

Risk bulletin for lone actor violence following Charlie Kirk killing
September 16th, 2025
The NYPD issued a bulletin warning about elevated risk of violence by lone actors or individuals radicalized online, targeting public figures (politicians, CEOs, etc.). This comes in the wake of the murder of Charlie Kirk. The bulletin notes that such violence doesn’t always align with a single extremist ideology; it may stem from mixed or personal grievances. It highlights that public events and open-air speaking engagements leave figures especially vulnerable.

Harlem gunfight leads to police-involved shooting involving teens

September 15th, 2025

Two 15-year-olds were wounded in a shooting in East Harlem. The NYPD says officers, responding to an unrelated call, heard gunfire and saw a man (18 years old) fire shots. Officers returned fire, then gave chase. The teens were shot (one in the leg, one in the knee), taken to hospital, and are in stable condition. The 18-year-old suspect, Damian Calhoun, was arrested and found carrying a gun with a high-capacity magazine. The department is investigating whether the teens were struck by police bullets or in the cross fire.

Tragic death inside a nursing home in Brooklyn

September 15th, 2025

A 95-year-old woman with dementia is accused of fatally attacking an 89-year-old fellow resident at the Seagate Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Brooklyn. She allegedly used a piece of a wheelchair to strike the victim multiple times in the head around 10 p.m. Sunday. The victim was found with critical head injuries and later died at NYU Brooklyn Hospital. The suspect was taken for physical and psychiatric evaluation.

Teen fatally struck by driver in Queens after rejecting advances

September 15th, 2025

In Queens, a 16-year-old girl, Jhoanny Alvarez, was killed after rejecting lewd advances from a 38-year-old man, Edwin Cruz-Gomez. Prosecutors say Cruz-Gomez, allegedly intoxicated and driving with a suspended license, drove the wrong way on a one-way street, veered onto the sidewalk, and hit Alvarez and her family following a confrontation. Her mother and stepfather were also injured. He has been charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder, assault, vehicular manslaughter, and other DUI-related offenses.

Pedestrian Struck in Brooklyn During NYPD Pursuit

September 14th, 2025

The NYPD chased a stolen car in the East New York neighborhood (75th Precinct). The chase ended when a pedestrian was struck. The suspect was a 15‑year‑old boy. This occurred around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Elderly Woman Robbed and Assaulted in Brooklyn

September 14th, 2025A 73‑year‑old woman was attacked inside a tire shop in Canarsie, Brooklyn at about 8:40 a.m. She was shoved, kicked repeatedly, and threatened with a gun; her phone was stolen. The suspect fled, wearing a green jacket, camouflage pants, a black hat and a mask. The woman was treated on site; no hospitalization reported.

He also criticized the current state of NYC politics, while analyzing the litany of events that led the city and police department to such a critical inflection point. The Executive Perspective: Retired Assistant Commissioner Kevin O’Connor hoped aboard, telling Ron & Rob how homeless people providing a helping hand helped teach him a valuable lesson as a rookie. O’Connor also got into his rise through the ranks, role in trying to reduce gun violence in New York City, and age laws on firearm arrests. For the week of 9/8-9/14, 2025, the NYPD is reporting citywide crime, year to date, rape is up 21.3% while felony assault remained relatively unchanged with a 1% increase. Overall, citywide crime is down 4.3%
